This video, uploaded by MrSupergolfer, shows the tragic finish to Colin Montgomrie’s final round at the 2006 US Open. Monty made a 60-foot bomb at 17 for birdie which put him in a tie for the lead going into the 18th hole. He proceeded to hit the fairway but his approach shot came up short and right, leaving him a very difficult up-and-down. Monty then 3-putted to make Double Bogey and leave him one shot off the eventual winner Geoff Ogilvy. This was most likely Montgomrie’s last chance of his brilliant career to win a Major golf championship.
Phil Mickelson also had an epic collapse at Hole #18, making a Double Bogey to finish one shot back. Many forget that Jim Furyk, too, missed a 5-foot putt at #18 for Par that would have put him in a tie with Ogilvy! MADNESS!!!
